The President and Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces of Uganda, HE Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Museveni shall this Thursday July 13, 2023 address the nation on security and other matters of national importance.
Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary said in a statement on Monday July 10, that the address will start at 8:00pm and will be live on all TV and radio stations.
The address comes in the wake of events happening in Uganda.
Last month, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attacked Lhubiria Secondary School in Mpondwe, Kasese District where they killed 42 people, most of them students. The terrorists also abducted at least eight students whom they forced to carry to DR Congo the food stuffs stolen from the school food store.
It also comes when Al-Shabaab killed 54 UPDF soldiers in an attack on an African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) operating base in Somalia on May 26, 2023.
The address also comes in the wake of his directive to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to probe the June 14, alleged violence that marred the Bukedea District LCV chairman byelection where already 8 government officials including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Wilberforce Tukei, the DPC, SP Charles Okoto and District Crime Intelligence Officer, D/ASP Alex Ehguloiti have since been arrested.
