The Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi on Friday July 14, 2023 pitched camp in Jinja city to address the rampant security concerns in Kiira policing region.
Flanked by a team of officers from the police headquarters, Katsigazi held talks with Kiira regional police officers led by the Regional Police Commander, RDCs among others at Civil Service College, Jinja City.
The talks rotated around the rampant murders in Bugembe, Wanyange, Mafubira and Namulesa all in Jinja City North Division.
Katsigazi said he was in the region to look at general deployment of the police, their performance and establish more facts about the queries by the Jinja City North MP, Isabirye David Aga.
Aga recently tabled on the floor of Parliament the ever increasing cases of murder in his constituency.
Addresing the press after the meeting with security chiefs, Katsigazi said: “We are here to understand the extend of the problem.”
He said he was in the region to ensure implementation of the Executive Order issued by the president directing deployment of 18 police officers in every subcounty. The president directed the consolidation of police posts into Gombolola (sub-county) police stations following attacks by unknoen assailants who targeted the out posts to kill and steal firearms.
Katsigazi said the police has already taken steps to implement the presidential directive, and many police posts with insufficient staffing have been consolidated.
