There is a sigh of relief among residents of Bugembe and the neighbouring areas following the arrest of five notorious gangsters.
The criminal gang was smoked out by operatives while hiding in the ceiling board in a house which they rented in school zone, Budhumbuli West –Bugembe Jinja North Division in Jinja city during an operation on Monday night.
According to Kiira Police Spokesperson Mr James Mubi following Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Geoffrey Katsigazi Tumusiime visit in Jinja last Friday, a joint security intelligence mechanism was formed to crack down on the deadly gang which has been terrorising the area.
While in Jinja, Maj Gen Katsigazi held a series of meetings with Resident City Commissioners,District Internal Security Officers,City internal Security officers,the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces to get to the bottom of the insecurity problems that has left a number of murdered,forcing people to retire home as early as 7pm.
Mr Mubi said that among the suspects is a female who confessed to detectives she was behind the recent attacks in Jinja North Division Jinja City.
“Our intelligence and other security inter-agencies are working tooth and nail to have credible information leading to the arrest of the remaining notorious suspects, they were found hiding in the ceiling of the house with a number of deadly tools they use to break into peoples’ houses and vehicles” said SP Mubi
Police identified the suspects as,Ndiye Adam, Mudumba Henry Musinguzi Burungi Racheal all residents of school zone, Budhumbuli West –Bugembe Jinja North Division and Nalucho Bosco resident of Danida in Masese Walukuba Jinja South Division in Jinja city
They are detained at Jinja central police station.
Mr Mubi said Mr Bosco Nalucho was captured by CCTV cameras as one of the suspects who broke into the home of Jinja Businessman, Tom Kalumula in Bukwale zone,Nakanyonyi in Jinja northern division a fortnight ago.
Mr Mubi said the gangs broke into Mr Kalumula’s house, smashed the windows and doors to access the interior of the building and made away with a number of items including phones,laptops ,money among others
They also smashed the windscreens of two vehicles they found in his home
Mr Kalumula who is still recovering from the incident on Tuesday said he and family survived death.
The thugs took some essential tools he uses for work including three phones, two laptops ,suites, shoes and other valuable they came across in the house.
Mr Kalumula said his two car windscreens were smashed,the windows and doors of the house were broken,and appealed to the police to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion to ensure the suspects are brought to book
