Police in Kikuube district have arrested three family members for the murder of Simon Ruhigisa, 54, a resident of Malembo block 3 in Kasonga Parish, Kyangwali refugee settlement.
The arrested are Franhias Vumiliya, the wife of the deceased, and her daughters, Rebeca Tumusifu and Dezanaze Mwamini, all residents of Malembo Block 3 in Kyangwali.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police mouthpiece, explained that the assault occurred on the 14th of this month, when the deceased’s wife and his daughters came back from the bar after taking a lot of alcohol and started beating their father.
Hakiza says the deceased sustained a lot of injuries on his forehead and was thus taken to Malembo Health Center II for treatment, but unfortunately, yesterday, as he was being transferred to Kyangwali Health Center III, he died on the way.
According to Hakiza, the deceased had always accused his wife and daughters of overdosing on alcohol. ‘’The deceased had always blamed his wife and daughters for overdrinking,’’ he said.
Hakiza cautioned the general public to deter overdosing on alcohol, especially the local waragi, because it is making people turn wild, thus killing each other.
