Police has released a report, indicating that two dead bodies were by Wednesday August 2, 2023 4:00pm retrieved from Lake Victoria following a 5:00am aimcident in which a boat carrying 34 passengers drowned.
In the report, police said they had also managed to rescue nine people and some 5 were still missing.
“Rescue efforts are underway with teams from Police Marines, UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit and local community on the waters trying to locate the missing people,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango at around 4:00pm Wednesday August 2, 2033.
The boat that capcized was carrying bags of charcoal, fresh foods, silver fish and several other items on top of the 34 passengers.
Police has attributed the cause of accident to overloading and bad weather.
“We appeal to members of the public who travel on waters to always wear life jackets and not to over load their vessels,” added Onyango.
