Police in Iganga are hunting for Paul Muwereza, the speaker of the Central Division Council and 8 other Councilors for putting locking up the Division offices over alleged unpaid sitting allowances.
It is alleged that on August 2, 2023, Muwereza, directed two welders to weld off the offices.
Muwereza claims he demands the Division authorities up to Shs 6M in allowances arrears.
Upon learning of the sealing off, the Iganga Municipal Council Town Clerk, Kasala Daniel ordered for the arrest of the two mercenaries who were welding off the offices.
The two suspects revealed to police that it was the Speaker who directed them to seal off the offices.
However, Muwereza contends that sealing off the division offices was the only the wake up the authorities from slumber to clear his debt.
Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula confirmed this report Thursday afternoon and said the police was looking for Muwereza and the eight councilors with whom they decided to seal the public offices.
