Rescue teams continue their search for victims of the boat accident on Lake Victoria that occurred on August 2nd, 2023.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said Saturday evening that “as of now, only five bodies, all of them female adults, have been recovered out of the 20 individuals who were reported missing.”

Onyango said the recovered five bodies have been transported to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations.

He named the five as 29-year-old Nankya Winnie, Rugose Zam Mutesi Angel,35, Nabisele Gladys aged 40, Namulondo Proscovia 44 and Najuna Edith aged 30 years.

“Unfortunately, the rescue efforts are facing challenges due to the rough conditions of the lake and heavy rainfall,” Onyango explained.

Since the tragic incident, the Police Marines, UPDF Marines, and local residents combined efforts in the mission to locate and recover all missing persons.

“We kindly request the public, especially those with missing relatives, to remain patient and composed as the rescue team continues to work tirelessly around the clock in their search and recovery operations,” added Onyago.
