Police in Butebo have arrested students of Kanginima Seed Secondary School who were planning to burn the school following the arrest of their teacher and night watch man.
According to Bukedi North Police spokesperson Immaculate Also Emily, the ICT teacher and School night guard were arrested following a burglary incident where school computers were stolen.
This irked some students who planned a strike which was foiled by security upon tip off.
“Plotters of the strike demanded the release of the ICT teacher. Failure to comply would lead to boycott of lessons, no access to school premises by anybody and the burning of the school premises”. Alaso revealed.
Upon getting the intelligence, a team led by DPC Butebo swung into action Monday August 7, 2023 and arrested ringleaders of the strike.
The suspects are in custody at Butebo Central Police Station.
Alaso said the police also exhibited deadly material which included a jerrycan containing about 3 litres of petrol and demonstration placards pinned at the school entrance and on some buildings.
“Police found huge stones, thorns, and logs at the gate hindering any access to the school,” said Alaso.
She added Police team is on ground ascertaining the possibility of any invisible hand behind this strike to ensure everyone is brought to book and also bring normalcy at school.
