Police in Kisoro has arrested two armed men in possession of hand granades and a gun.
The suspects have been identified as 29 years old Sadiki Gashendure a Congole resident of Karambo village Bunagana in DRC and Silvani Uwirangiye 32 years a resident of Gatete village Rwaramba parish Nyakinama sub county Kisoro district.
Kigezi region Police spokesperson Elly Maate reveals that the duo was netted upon tip off by intelligence that on the 12/08/2023 at around 8:00pm Sadiki Gashendure crossed through Bunyangaro Nyabwishenya Kisoro border from DRC with some fire arms.
They were arrested by a combined security forces led by UPDF who trailed Sadiki upto Kisoro township where he was hiding armed with two hand granades, upon interrogation by detectives he revealed that he has an SMG rifle which is kept by his colleague whom he identified as Silvan Uwiragiye who was also arrested.
The two led the security team to a recovery of a machine which was burried in a banana plantation near Uwiragiye’s home in Gatete ( SMG rifle no. 56×20019268), together with 64 rounds of live ammunitions.
All the recovered arms together with the two suspects are in police custody as investigations continue to establish the source of the fire arms, the motive and if there are more associates.
