On Friday August 18, 2023, organizers of Kagulu rock climb challenge organised a press conference at the hill ahead of the 26th August Kagulu rock climbing challenge where Kyabazinga Gabula IV is expected to be the Chief climber.
As usual the Journalists came in big numbers for two reasons; Busoga Tourism and Heritage minister, juicy-youthful Hellen Namutamba dishes big facilitation to scribes and many reporters wanted to use the opportunity to try reaching the peak of the rock, though some failed.
Among the renowned journalists who didn’t miss the presser is this tall dark skinned ever smiling scribe Akim Kanyere the NBS TV Bureau chief of Jinja area.
But our snoop – of Gossip Eye was placed atop the rock to see who among those scribes could achieve both the facilitation, the story and reaching the top of the rock. Mr Kanye as fondly called by his peers, never reached the top.
But to prove to his colleagues and the onlooking beauties contesting for this years Miss Busoga Tourism that though he failed the climbing challenge, he has some energy, Kanye attempted to carry one of the huge rocks of Kagulu. Scribes who traveled with him in the same van had seen him and his friend attached to Vision Group gulp energy drinks in Kamuli as though they were going to carry Kagulu rock away.
“Does he think that he shall carry it the way he carries babes in town? The guy has no gas even when he takes 5 bottles of powerplay,” some jocular scribes were heard saying. Among those who gazed at Kanye as profusely sweated on the rock were these Beauteous babes contesting for the crown of Miss Tourism.
Unlike Kanye, some scribes changed to sports wear but still had to use the ladders constructed on the rock by Busoga Kingdom for the sick, PWDs and elderly to reach the peak.
Kagulu rock is a historic and Heritage site to the Kingdom of Busoga where it is believed that it was the settlement of the first Musoga known as Namutukula and his wife Nawudo who crossed Lake Kyoga from Bunyoro Kingdom.
And in a bid to promote tourism and Heritage every year, Busoga Kingdom organises the Kagulu rock climbing festival and according to The Minister of Tourism and Heritage Hellen Namutamba, this year’s festivities shall start on 24th to 26th August that shall be characterised by a cultural galore, crowning Busoga miss tourism and the Rock climbing challenge on the D Day.
Namutamba encourages all international and local tourists to turn up in big numbers and participate in this fascinating but quite challenging task.
To ease the climbing, the Kingdom in partnership with government have constructed stairs and chains to the top of rock standing at 3600 feet above sea level.
