Court sitting at Kiyunga in Luuka district presided over by Grade 1 Magistrate, Yunusu Ndiwalana Wednesday August 23, 2023 remanded 10 youth accused of stabbing local residents of Nawampiti sub-county.
The case file has a total of 12 accused persons but some two were still at large, according to prosecution.
The 12 are accused of their involvement in the violence in which at least four people were on the night of Saturday July 1, 2023 hacked to near death by alleged panga-wielding thugs in the eastern district of Luuka, Busoga subregion.
In the new episode of attacks, the machete-wielding men stormed Bugomba village in Nawampiti sub-county and stabbed residents who were enjoying music at a house warming party hosted by Mirabu Nangobi.
The victims of the attack who appeared in court to pin the accused persons where identified as Moses Waiswa, Richard Katala, Francis Mugodi and Taaka.
Our reporter Umar Ntogona writes that some of the victims had wounds and scars and could point at the suspect who injured them.
The accused include Kulwanda Gerald, Mubiru Isaac, Waiswa Jimmy, Lutaaya Denis, Tenywa Dan Madambo, Isabirye Emma, Isabirye Jason, Waiswa Joel, Jackson Dhikusooka, Joshua Tabulya, Emmanuel Kulaba, and Jonathan.
They collectively face three charges: damaging property, assault, and carrying out malicious cutting, as documented in file No.CRB 261/2023.
Luuka Police Station, led by Luuka RDC Samuel Musiho and O/C Luuka District Operation Arineitwe Joseph, conducted a raid on July 26th, 2023, leading to the arrest of 12 individuals. However, on August 1st, 2023, officials at Luuka Police Station released 5 of them on police bond.
During the hearing, the Magistrate asked the police to apprehend the other two suspect. He remanded the 10 to Kiyunga prisons until August 30, 2023.
