Two people perished in a Saturday road accident that involved three vehicles around Amach Market in Lira District.
The deceased have been identified by the police as Irene Atim 30, resident of Tesobar and Proscovia Akoli 38, a resident of Cuk-ibange in Lira City West Division.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the accident noting that it was caused over speeding.
Okema said a Lorry Fuso Reg No UBN 247J, Isuzu Reg No UBD 6083N and a trailer KCL 963S/ZB 9924 collided resulting into the crash of the deceased.
“Preliminary findings indicate that M/V UBN 247J which was carrying coca cola products was over speeding when it lost control and rammed into stationery, and two other vehicles that were parked along the road side,” he said.
Bodies of the deceased are lying at Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending post mortem while all the vehicles are towed to Lira-City Central Police Station also pending Inspectorate Of Vehicle Inspection (IOV).
