Over 500 people in Kyamulibwa sub county, Kalungu district were left homeless after torrential rains swept houses in the area.
According to Kalungu Resident District Commissioner, Paddy Johnson Kayondo, more than 40 persons were injured and admitted at Kyamulibwa Health Centre III after the Tuesday September 5, 2023 night downpour.
The heavy rains combined with hailstorm started at around 8:00pm and lasted about two hours leaving a total of four parishes badly ravaged. The area had for some time experience a dry spell.
The RDC says that at least 100 houses were destroyed in the storm which didn’t spare any standing plants and property.
“I have sent the district disaster committee to go and carryout analysis to assess the damage and the relief that is required. We are planning to write to the Office of the Prime Minister for relief.”
“I am also calling up any well wishers who can immediately assist our people to come up and provide either warming materials, food and other items because really a big number of people especially the aged are affected,” said the RDC Wednesday morning.
