There is brewing pressure among the current ministers in Obwa Kyabazinga bwa Busoga after premier, Dr Joseph Muvawala publicly announced that the King is soon announcing his new cabinet.
According to Muvawala the current cabinet expired and therefore office bearers shall have to be replaced.
Muvawala was delivering his address during the 9th Coronation anniversary at Namungalwe playground in Iganga district on Wednesday September 13, 2023 when he hinted on cabinet reshuffle.
Dr Muvawala who is also the Executive Director of National Planning Authority said the new cabinet shall be smaller than the current one.
‘I would propose that the King considers reducing the number of Ministers such that he appoints few individuals who shall be result oriented and work for the Kingdom” Dr Muvawala said amidst ulalations from the audience.
He also proposed that for effectiveness let those who shall be appointed as Ministers earn salary for effectiveness and better service delivery in Kingdom.
In what seemed like indirect resignation, Dr Muvawala asked the King not to consider civil servants like him (Muvalawa) in the new cabinet but give the offices to loyalists who shall give the kingdom enough time.
“We want a Prime Minister who shall be available all the time at the Kingdom headquarters Bugembe for the day to day running of the Kingdom on behalf of the King, not like me who is holding another office in Kampala,” he said.
Before being appointed as substantive Prime Minister of Busoga, Muvawala headed 11 members steering committee which was disbanded in 2015 when the Kyabazinga appointed his cabinet
The current cabinet has been pivotal in building unity within the Kingdom and help the formerly torn Kingdom into two factions to heal.
Analysts observe that there is Indeed a bit of normalcy within the Kingdom though with a few challenges.
There is anxiety among the people of Busoga on who should be appointed as the new Prime Minister (Katukiro).
