Men dressed like aviation staff Thursday morning grabbed Bobi Wine just as he set foot on Entebbe International Airport.
Bobi had earlier on released a photo looking so worried while on the plane.
As the plane landed, Bobi was filmed making several phone calls perhaps mobilizing his supporters or at least informing his family that he had successfully landed.
He was immediately arrested and put into a waiting saloon car and taken to an unknown destination.
The National Unity Platform leader was on his return from South Africa.
Mathias Mpuuga, the leader of the opposition in parliament, expressed concern on his social media platform, saying, “The regime has arrested our President upon arrival at Entebbe Airport. We set out to receive him today, but the security measures did not allow him to go through immigration. We are following up for his safety.”
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, explained that security agencies had received credible intelligence regarding plans by political activists, especially from the National Unity Platform (NUP), to mobilize the public for an unauthorized welcome event for Bobi Wine.
Security is visibly beefed up along all routs to the airport and Magere, Bobi Wine’s home.
