Much as the next general elections program is more than 2 years ahead, in Buzaaya it is like they will vote in two months from now.
But renowned lawyer Stephen Muzuusa seems to have become a darling to the youth and women with many considering him as a uniting factor a constituency sharply divided into two politocal factions of former minister Isaac Musumba and incumbent MP, Martin Muzaale.
Last week youths held a secret meeting in Mbulamuti and resolved that they would mobilize for Muzuusa.
On Sunday during burial of renowned businessman Joseph Asoni in Nalinaibi village, Nawanyago sub-coubty councilor Bosco Mugweri told mourners that they had resolved as youths to deliberate themselves from politics of intrigue.
“Our constituency is not Gaza. It is not a monarch either where if it is not Musumba in Parliament then it is Muzaale.
We have agreed as youths of this generation not to be used or divided any further by the two political nemeses,” he said.
“We have given Kisozi (Musumba’s home area) and Bugulumbya (where Muzaale hails from) enough opportunities. Even our fellow youth in those areas have agreed with us that for Buzaaya to unite, we need a member of Parliament from neither of those two,” said Mugweri to the amusement of moruners who mostly from Nawanyago and Kasambira.
Mugweri described Muzuusa as a nice person who also understands the law given the fact that he is a senior lawyer.
“We believe that Muzuusa shall use his expertise to represent us so well in the house wherr laws are made and amended. He has also demonstrated being a people’s person by standing with whoever has problems as this one,” he said.
In 2016, Muzuusa contested for the same position as an independent candidate but lost to NRM flag bearer, Isaac Isanga Musumba. In the primaries, Musumba beat his nemesis Martin Muzaale Kisule before emerging winner consquently in the general elections where the latter was the first runner-up and Muzuusa the second runner-up.
In the 2021 general elections, Muzuusa who had drilled boreholes almost in every village never contested. He left the race mainly between Musumba and Muzaale although some other names appeared on the ballot. Muzaale beat Musumba who was then a state minister for urban development.
Though the two political giants have enjoyed supremacy in the NRM Party politics for while, Muzuusa has expressed interest to join them in NRM primaries.
“In 2016 I was an NRM leaning independent but in 2026, I want to first get my party flag. We are tired of the perennial wars between our two elder brothers who have left Buzaaya sharply divided,” said Muzuusa.
Although he didn’t mention names, it is evident that Buzaaya’s NRM members are divided into Musumba and Muzaale factions.
Previous elections have been characterized with violence where some individuals lost life, property and those who survived have physical scars.
Muzuusa says he is a unifying factor whose intentions are to rebuild Buzaaya and give the people the representation they deserve.
“Parliament is a place of making laws and as you are aware I am a lawyer myself. I know what it means to make laws. I know and understand the legal language,” he asserted the soft spoken celebrated lawyer.
At every function espcailly burials and women groups’ Thanksgivings, Muzuusa is always represented by his troops, a sign that the man from Nawanyago sub-county is more serious than before.
