Detectives handling the files of murder of the Nyamitsindo Parish LII chairman in Isingiro District have arrested his family members.
The 64-year-old Ben Byenyinemwe who had been LCII chairman for the last 3 political terms was on October 23, 2023 midnight murdered under unclear circumstances.
Among the four suspects so far held in the matter are his own close family members.
Law enforcement officers, including the Police Canine Unit, rushed to the scene of the crime, which unveiled a horrifying sight.
Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben’s lifeless body lay on his bed, drenched in his own blood, with a deep cut on his neck.
The victim’s wife, Kiconco Sylivia, who was present at the time, provided a chilling account of the events.
She recounted that assailants had attacked her husband while she was in the store, and she only discovered three individuals leaving the house after the brutal assault on her husband.
She alleged that the attackers, it appears, also turned on her before fleeing the scene.
The involvement of the Police Canine Unit added a new dimension to the investigation. The trained dog led officers to Nyakagyera cell in Kabingo sub-county, approximately 10 kilometers from the crime scene. The trail eventually pointed to the house of the victim’s son, Yebuuze Ronald, and then proceeded to the residence of a neighbor, Tukwatanise Moses.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the motive behind this horrifying crime may be domestic disputes within the family.
Allegedly, tensions had arisen after the deceased Chairman married a second wife, creating irreparable divisions within the household.
According to Rwizi regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, the body of Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben has been transferred to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Meanwhile, the four suspects are currently in police custody as they assist with the ongoing investigation.
