Jinja City Council authorities have renamed a road after the fallen Ex-Minister, Henry Kyemba for his good leadership, mentorship, humility, care and love for the people in Busoga and Uganda as a nation.
The motion of renaming a road after the late was moved by the deputy Mayor Jinja City Ms Fazira Kauma that Radio Road, one of the roads in the city be re-named Henry Kyemba Road that was unanimously supported by the members of council.
This was when Jinja City Council eulogised the Late Henry Kyemba during a special council meeting on Wednesday.
The council was presided over by the speaker of Jinja City Mr Bernard Mbayo who gave opportunities to Late Kyemba’s friends, political opponents, classmates and workmates to pay tribute to former politician.
Mr Mbayo said the renaming of the road will cause some inconveniences especially to those people who have property on the road but council through the local government guidelines ensure everything is handled to the latter.
Rtd Col Tony Otto, a friend who knew Kyemba for over 30 years said they had a good time and when both of them stood for Member of Parliament for Jinja West, Kyemba went through and they continued to keep that friendship as family.
Former Jinja Town Clerk Mr David Naluwayiro apart from attending the same schools from primary to higher level of education, his wife and that of Kyemba had the same names Janet.
Resident City Commissioner Mr Darius Nandinda said Busoga is one the regions with the most highly learnt people that he used to hear about when he was still a student.
“I am now here one year and half Busoga has the most highly educated people .The region has judges ,speakers ,ministers among other highly educated people holding big offices serving in the government but there is need for unity to bring peace among the people in region”,said Mr Nandinda.
Rotary Clubs in Jinja represented by Rotary Club of Source of the Nile where Kyemba was a member served as district governor ,Ms Georgina Tumusiime the president said the government should recognize Kyemba by putting up a library in his memory of Kyemba.
“We as Rotary family are celebrating his time in services he held in several capacity.His integrity, care and love for humanity will always be cherished and we asked the government to put his memory in Jinja”said Ms Tumusiime.
Jinja City Mayor Mr Peter Okocha Kasolo said he first met Late Kyemba when a friend asked him to accompany him for an interview.
“I have learnt a lot from his book that he wrote “The State of Blood “, when you read there are very important matters.Being NUP does not mean to kill NRM or FDC but in all situations we need to work together”,said Mr Kasolo.
Ms Janet Kyemba the widow thanked the government for giving a decent burial for her husband,adding that the late has been in all his life fighting corruption.
