Verified information is that the LCV chairman of Bugiri District, Davidson Mulumba has been summoned by detectives at the central police station in his district for assaulting a police officer.
The district chairman allegedly attacked and slapped Cpl Fred Wabwire, the officer in charge of the police post at Bugiri general hospital.
Wabwire alleges that Mulumba slapped and repeatedly punched him in the abdomen one early Friday morning.
The altercation arose when Mulumba, along with a group of four men on motorcycles, refused to disclose their identities and responded with insults when Wabwire attempted to search them for weapons.
The decision to search individuals and vehicles leaving or entering the hospital was made due to recurrent incidents of missing patient belongings and hospital equipment under unclear circumstances.
Reached for a comment, Mulumba reportedly refutes the assault allegations, asserting that he was on an investigative visit to check on nighttime patient care, only to face verbal abuse from the officers on duty.
Meanwhile, the Bugiri district police commander, Godwin Ochaki, emphasizes that violence is unjustifiable, and any public assault is degrading.
Ochaki mentions that Wabwire filed an assault report at the Bugiri central police station, and an investigation is underway, including taking statements from witnesses and issuing summons to Mulumba to ensure a fair process.
