The Government has said the late Dr David Kantaale Kazungu Kisige, 81, will be accorded an official burial.
Dr Kazungu will be buried at his ancestral home in Kamuli Municipality on Friday November 10, 2023.
According to a statement released by Hon Milly Babirye Babalanda, the Minister for the Presidency, the fallen former minister, diplomat, educationist and elder is granted an official burial by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“The National Organising Committee and the late’s family will issue a detailed burial program tomorrow (today November 9, 2023). Sympathies to her family,” reads Hon Babalanda’s statement on her X in part.
Dr Kazungu was a lecturer in the Department of Rural Economy, in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at Makerere in the 1970s before joining politics as a member of the Expanded National Consultative Council (NCC) representing Kamuli Central on December 10, 1980 on Democratic Party (DP) ticket.
After the July 27, 1985 coup, Dr Kazungu was appointed Minister of Rehabilitation in the Okello Lutwa Government. He used his position to settle several families that had been displaced in Busoga.
As a member of Parliament, Dr Kazungu facilitated the opening up of Kamuli Teachers’ College, Kidera S.S., Budiope S.S., Balawoli S.S., Luzinga S.S., Buzaya S.S., and Bugulumbya S.S. in Kamuli district.
He is remembers for having placed several sons and daughter of abasoga in government positions and jobs.
He also served as Resistance Council Five (RC 5) Chairman of Kamuli.
He spearheaded the December 2017 request to government to take over Busoga University and give Busoga a Special Program which was granted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
He was always the executor of the concepts and decisions of the Church of Uganda in the Greater Busoga Diocese.
Upon the demise of HRH Prof. Wilson Kadhumbuka Nadiope Bamwiki III, Dr. Kazungu together with Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze and Mzee Ssosi Kaisa were selected as the Regents of the baby King. Dr Kazungu the last of the regents, shall be buried hardly a week to the marriage of the King at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe.
In 2000 he was part of the team that spearheaded the installation of Kyabazinga Gabula as GABULA of Bugabula chief.
Dr Kazungu has all the time been surprising the construction and repairs at the Budhumbula palace.
