Police in Kanungu are hunting for the unknown thugs who strangled to death a 77-year-old woman who had just sold her maize garden.
The deceased has been identified by Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate as Teopista Tibabuza a resident of Group Farm village, Kibiimbiri parish, Kihihi sub county, Kanungu district.
Tibabuza who was staying alone in her house was found dead Monday November 20, 2023 afternoon.
Her lifeless body was discovered in her bed by a pastor who had gone there for fellowship.
“It’s alleged that on the 20/11/ 2023 at about mid day, at Group Farm B cell, while pastor Tumugabe Gerald had gone to pray for his followers, he found her home was locked and compound not swept.
He called but was no response, he went to the neighbor one Peace wife of Ndagije where he inquired, and was told they had not seen her.
Pastor went to the back door and saw a small opening which Theopista uses to open,” said Maate in a statement.
“He opened and only to find Teopista dead on her bed. He had prayed for her the previous evening that she was complaining of back pain. He called the neighbours and was established that she had sold a garden of maize at an unspecified amount,” he added.
Tibabuza’s lifeless body was found lying on the left side at the edge of her bed with a swollen eye and bruises plus mark’s of fresh scratches of strangulation on the neck.
Police officers who visited the scene did a
postmortem at the site and body handed over to relatives for decent burial.
“We have initiated investigations into this matter,” said Maate.
