Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels are reported to have carried out a deadly attack in Nyabitutsi village, Businge parish, Kamwenge sub-county, Kamwenge district.
The assault occurred on Christmas night, resulting in the tragic death of three individuals. Kamwenge Resident District Commissioner, Isiah Kanyamahane Byarugaba, confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers raided a house in the village, setting it ablaze.
The victims of the attack were identified as Adrine Ngwabiiji, 78, and her two grandchildren.
The assailants not only caused loss of life but also made off with ten goats and five cows.
This recent attack follows closely on the heels of another ADF-related incident approximately a week ago, where suspected rebels killed 10 people around the Kibaale forest.
The victims, who were guarding their crops against monkeys, fell prey to the assailants. In response to the Kamwenge attack, President Yoweri Museveni condemned the act, attributing it to four killers believed to be remnants of the Njovu-Kamusu group. This group, consisting of 10 members, reportedly entered Uganda from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a few weeks ago.
President Museveni mentioned their previous atrocities, including the killing of school children, two tourists, a driver, and the burning of an onion truck. The security situation in the affected areas remains tense, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
