At least nine dead bodies have been retrieved from a scene of accident following an incident in which a Fuso truck on which they were traveling overturned.
Ssezibwa region police spokesperson, Hellen Butoto said in a statement Wednesday January 3, 2023 that the incident occured at Bulyantente near the flyover along Kampala Jinja highway in Buikwe district at around 1:00am.
Butoto says Motor vehicle Reg No. UBN 533T Mitsubishi Fuso truck white in colour which overturned was being driven by a yet to be identified person.
lt’s alleged that the Fuso that was from Jinja side and heading to Kampala was carrying sacks of oranges with passengers covered with a tapline concelling.
On reaching the traffick police checkpoint, the driver entered into a water channel to avoid being interceptes by the traffic Police Officers.
There he lost control and overturned in the water channel. Angle bars and the tapline that was covering the vehicle fell on passengers and they safforcated.
“Nine bodies have been retrieved from the scene and taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary for postmorteum,” said Butoto adding that only w out of the nine had identity cards.
Butoto said that three survivors are admitted to Kawolo hospital recieving treatment.
“Investigations are ongoing. Motor Vehicle parked at Lugazi Cps parking yard,” she added.
