Residents of Lugazi Municipality in Buikwe district Friday January 5, 2024 lynched a suspected thief who had gone to steal chicken at one of the residents’ homes on Friday early morning.
The unknown thief was in the company of two other colleagues who escaped death when they managed to take off as the mob zeroed on the unlucky one killed.
Ssezibwa Police Spokesperson Ms Hellen Butoto has confirmed the killing of the suspected thief.
She said the three had come to steal chicken belonging to Mr Andrew Kibudde at around 4:00am and were alerted by the dog that was barking prompting him and wife to get out.
“On checking around the couple saw three men standing by the fence and one was busy picking the chicken .They made an alarm that attracted residents to the scene, got hold of one of the suspects, took him by the roadside and killed him,” said Ms Butoto.
Ms Butoto said the owner of the chicken tried to save the life of the thief but he was overpowered by the angry residents who took the law into their hands.
The body was taken to Lugazi Hospital mortuary.
