The Ugandan envoy to Russia, His Excellence Moses Kizige, Sunday January 7, 2024 night survived an accident that claimed one life in Kayunga district.
The challenging incident unfolded at Kazo village along Busaana-Kayunga road in Kayunga district when Hon Kizige’s Toyota Alphad UBG 555D collided with a motorcycle carrying three occupants.
It is said that one of the occupants on the motor bike who was identified as Willy Ssalongo Mungoma, a 50-year-old resident of Katikamu village in Kayunga district, died instantly while colleagues sustained injuries.
Victims including Zubairi Serugo, the boda-boda rider and the deceased’s wife Loviser Nambuya were rushed to Kayunga regional referral hospital for medical attention.
According to reports, Hon Kizige and his crew including his wife Betty Kizige sustained minor injuries.
The Kayunga District Police Commander (DPC) Rossette Sikahwa, confirmed the accident, attributing it to the reckleness of the cyclist who attempted to cross the road without checking whether there was an oncoming traffic.
“According to preliminary findings, the accident was caused by the reckelessness of the motorcyclist,” she said.
The diplomat (Mr Kizige), the former legislator of Bugabula North in Kamuli district, experienced the fate on his way to Kampala from his home area in Kamuli where he went to attend the burial of a long time friend. Kizige habitually doesn’t miss burial in his community save for when he is far.
It is, however, alleged that about UGX7 million were stolen by the first responders at the scene of the accident.
