The police in Rukungiri district have arrested a 19-year-old Generous Ainembabazi and hunting for Godfrey Twongyirwe for allegedly murdering their two weeks baby boy.
It’s alleged that, Ainembabazi, a resident of Kyahi village, Karuhembe Parish, Kebison sub county Rukungiri district, fell in love with Twongirwe who after conceiving, took her to stay with his parents at Makiro Village, Mabanga Parish in Kebison Sub County and successfully delivered a baby boy on December 22, 2023.
Twongirwe’s mother, a one Kellen Asiimwe is reported to have mentioned how the baby wasn’t their blood, prompting her to chase the young mother from home on January 7, 2024.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police Public Relaations Officer elaborated that left to her husband’s work place at the home of John Bosco Mbyemire where she dumped the lively baby in an abandoned latrine of Machati Prutazi at Kyahi village.
The missing of the baby triggered Mbemire to question for his whereabouts and reported the matter to Mabanga Police Post for further management.
Maate told reporters that the scene was visited, examined and documented by the CID, Fire and Rescue services, adding that the child’s body was retrieved and conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III for postmortem to ascertain the actual cause of the death.
He further stated that the suspect (Ainembabazi) who was arrested by locals was handed over to police while her husband remains on the run as inquiries into the matter proceed.
