Godon Asiimwe, a 41-year-old resident of Rubaanda district succumbed to injuries sutained during a fight against his wife identified as Fortunate Kesande over unclear misunderstandings.
According to allegations, the Asiimwe’s assault was subjected on last year’s christmass day (December 25) when the couple developed a quarrel which resulted into a serious fight.
“The shuffle ensued aattraacting the furious husband to pick an axe which was in the compound to hit the opponent (wife) who stood up and started struggling to remove the axe from him and in the process, the axe hit him on the forehead causing an injury,” revealed Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police publicist.
The deceased remained home seeking care from a traditional healer where on the January 4, 2024 the pain increased and the wife informed a one Francis Bigyemano and about what happened.
Maate said Bigyemano reported a case of assault on Asiimwe to Bunyonyi police post and took him to Rugarama Hospital Kabale where he was admitted and was laater referred to Mbarara hospital. He was instead taken back home where he succumbed of injuries on Tuesday.
“Scene was visited and documented, relevant witness statements recorded, postmortem done and the body was handed over to relatives for burial,” the officer further stated, adding that the exhibit of an axe was recovered at the crime scene.
He confirmed that the wife of the deceased was arrested to help in investigations into the controversial matter.
