The shs1 billion-support granted to Kamuli district from the central government to improve on the status of roads has activated verbal collisions between leaders in the district.
According to reports, the allocation of the said money has initiated mixed reactions with the political authorities accusing one another for greed to swindle the “papers”.
In a recent exchange of words, John Teira, the Bugabula North Member of Parliament in Kamuli district, revealed that a total of eighteen roads were selected and approved to be maintained but he was shocked when the district chairperson, Charles Maxwel Kiwembula, produced a list indicating only twelve roads.
During a recent roads committee meeting, Hon Teira fumed that he will not admit misallocations and misuse of funds yet the truth were publicly stated.
“It is disturbing when you tell me are going to work upon twelve roads yet we had earlier approved eighteen roads. It means the money supposed to be utilized on the six roads is somewhere else,” Teira pinned Kuwembula.
He cited the Balawoli-Namasagali road that was allocated shs.134 million and Kuwembula produced a lengthy budget of shs187 million which Teira maintained that it is unlawful and the money must be back.
The accused Kuwembula, however, is quotted by Busoga One FM in their Wednesday Januray 24 morning bulletin to have said that all the reports are “malice” and distanced himself from the allegations.
He said the MP (Teira) is involving in local duties “he is out of”, advising him to concentrate on his roles of legislation and representation.
Kuwembula alleges that the “accusers” are only fronting political battles against his candidature as Kamuli boss, threatening to deal with any opponents in the anticipated 2026 elections.
“Am not that type of a leader to engage in such a childish fight, I am the one making resolutions of the money and nobody will use his position to antagonize my duties in the district,” said Kuwembula, adding that he is ready for a war.
Both Kuwembula and Teira are National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearers and subscribe to the same political camp in Kamuli district.
Since 2020 when they became candidates, the NRM figures have been friends who never opposed each other on any political, social or economic position until the Shs 1b came into the mix.
LC V chairpersons, MPs, RDC and district engineers compose the District Roads Committee which has mandate to appropriate the said Shs1b.
Even with the money in their hands, roads remain a big problem in the rural Kamuli district.
