The Mountain Division Court Martial has sentenced two individuals including Peter Basara, 26 and Gideon Mugisa, 31-year-old to 30 years imprisonment on accusations of attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
The duo who resides at Makindu village in Butungama Sub-county, Ntoroko district, appeared before the Division Court Martial and denied the offenses.
Chaired by Lt Col George Achaya, the Mountain Division Court Martial Wednesday convicted the two civilians for unlawful possession of firearms, attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
The court heard that on the night of September 19, 2022 at around 11:00 pm, the duo shot and injured Mutegeki Timothy and robbed him of Two million eight hundred thousand shillings (Shs 2,800,000).
Prosecutions exhibited overwhelming evidence that implicated the criminals and 5 eyewitnesses who were able to identify the suspects during an identification parade.
According to Major Bilal Katamba the Public Information Officer of UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa, the two are shall serve imprisonment of 7 years, 20 years, and 30 years on the counts of unlawful possession of firearms, attempted murder and aggravated robbery respectively.
He said the three sentences will be served concurrently at Katoju Government Prison.
