Police in Kisoro have three suspects in detention for allegedly murdering a teacher.
The deceased has been identified as Sunday Calist a 54-years-old teacher and resident of Nyakarembe village, Kagunga parish in Bukimbiri sub county, Kisoro district.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson told Ete Media February 17, 2024 evening that the incident occurred at around 3:00am that Saturday.
“It was reported at Bukimbiri Police Post on 17/2/2024 at around 0900 hours that on 17/2/2024 at about 0300 hours at Nyakarembe village Kagunga parish Bukimbiri subcounty Kisoro district, three persons that included;
Bagyenyi Gerald 35 years,
Monday Ezra 38 years and, Arinaitwe Thomas 40 years All residents of Birara village Kagunga parish Bukimbiri sub county Kisoro district,
went to the home of the deceased who was in his bed with his wife sleeping and they called him that one of their residents Nyirabyiringiro Allen was seriously ill and as their community norm they had gone to tell him such that they carry the patient to the hospital,” he said.
“He got out of his house and joined them to go and take the deceased to the hospital as they claimed. The wife of the deceased saw and identified the said persons as they called and went away with the deceased,” Maate added.
“But later the wife of the deceased was uncomfortable with the way her husband was invited and taken away and she decided to follow them up to the home of Agaba Ezra about 100m away as they claimed that they were to Agaba Ezra’s vehicle. Instead, she found the dead body of her husband lying in front of the house of Agaba Ezra,” he explained.
The deceased body was found with deep fresh cut wounds all over the head.
The police say they apprehended the three suspects to help in their inquiries.
