The speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Annet Anita Among on Saturday March 16, 2024, disclosed to her voters in Bukedea district that she is under attack by a former speaker trying to lay ground to reclaim leadership of the August house in 2026.
Among described the former speaker as an enemy and asked the people of Teso to remain firm and show the world that they are as a region not ready to lose speakership.
Without mentioning names, the furious Among accused the ex-parliamentary heads of facilitating her current distresses of repeated accusations of corruption and office misuse.
Among was addressing constituents of Bukedea who had turned up for the ongoing voter’s register update of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) at Apopongo primary school.
When they heard that their Woman MP and speaker was coming to update her NRM membership, Among’s supporters came in big numbers to as usual welcome her as a heroine.
Among said she is not ready to leave office despite all fights against her.
“There are people saying they want to reclaim the seat of the speaker. What did they leave there in office, which they say it is their’s? Wondered the angry Among.
Among, who did not mention any names of “hater” proudly stated that Teso also needs a speaker.
“What haven’t we done? You mean in Teso we don’t need a speaker? In Bukedea, we don’t need a speaker? She furiously asked.
She informed the residents that she is confident and jogging enough to deal with anybody confronting and undermining her duties as the speaker of Parliament.
“Their fights will yield nothing. I want to tell you that we are still there,” she said.
“By the grace of God, those who think they will continue fighting us will be put to shame,” she added.
Among said she is the best asset than those who think the office of the speaker [which they left] belongs to them.
“Those who advocate for my resignation did not elect me as a member of Parliament. My voters are here, and the president who supported me still supports me,” she bragged.
Among rallied the people of Bukedea and the wider Teso sub-region to register as members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party due to the party’s longstanding credibility under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
She reminded them that president Museveni’s transformative leadership has steered Uganda towards progress and economic stability over the past four decades.
“We applaud the President’s role in positioning Uganda as a regional and global economic powerhouse,” she said.
