Arrest of a school Headteacher has been made in Rukungiri district following allegations that he fearlessly defiled two minors and indecently assaulted a third one.
The suspect is identified as James Babyebuza, a 58-year-old headteacher of Karukaata Primary School located in Nyarushanje Sub county, Rubabo County, Rukungiri district.
His arrest is a result of the authorities establishing that he practiced the unlawful act on 3 girls ages 15, 14, and twelve years of the school he heads.
Police findings reveal that the suspected defiled the girls several times between August 2023 and March 2024 at the school.
SP Elly Maate, the spokesperson of police in Kigezi region stated Saturday March 30, 2024 that the irritating act came to light after the school woman teacher reported to police.
“They (victims) decided to reveal the secret to the School Senior Woman teacher who alerted the Inspector of Schools (DIS),” said Maate.
Maate said the DIS last Thursday, March 28, 2024, reported at Rukungiri Central Police Station (CPS), and the law enforcement officers took action accordingly.
“The suspect was accordingly arrested and in custody at Rukungiri CPS on charges of aggravated defilement,” Maate added before stating that inquiries are still at hand.
