On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, reports indicated that His Excellency, the president and commander in chief of all armed forces, had confirmed the new transfers and appointments in the country’s security forces.
Allegations showed that Maj Gen Godfrey Tumusiime Katsigazi, the deputy inspector General of Police (DIGP), had been appointed the Uganda’s military attache to Beijing, a renowned province in China.
It was also reported that President Yoweri Museveni had promoted Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda to the inspector General of Police, replacing Martins Okochi Ochola, whose contract terminated and handed over the office.
The changes that were reported to take immediate effect, elevated AIGP Grace Akullo to the deputy IGP, a position currently undertaken by the Maj Gen Katsigazi.
Highlighting the new appointments, the presidential press unit (PPU) through the deputy presidential press Secretary, Faruk Kirunda, refuted the allegations, terming it as fake news.
“The news circulating on social media regarding appointment of the new Inspector General of Police and the Deputy is fake news. The general public will be informed when the president makes these appointments – PPU,” Mr Kirunda tweeted on his official “X” handle.
