The coordinator of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in Namutumba district, Mr Yusufu Dabada on Thursday April 25, 2024 mobilized a delegation of colleagues to implement their decision of joining the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The group decided to dump the leading opposition party and join the yellow party they have criticised for years.
Mr Dabada, the former aspirant of the Busiki constituency in the 2021 general elections on NUP ticket, is now singing the NRM ideology ahead of the 2026 polls.
He led the group of other NUP members to Bugolobi in Kampala, where they were “born again” and “baptised” by Captain Mike Mukula, the NRM vice chairperson for Eastern region.
Dabada, a sports commentator at the Jinja based NBS FM 89.4 and a former district councilor is concerned with the uncoordinated strategies of the NUP party which he says can never trigger a fundamental change in the Pearl of Africa, Uganda.
He is remembered in the NUP party as the pioneer youth coordinator in charge of the Busoga subregion. His crossing to NRM is likely to leave NUP cracked.
Dabada emerged the third runner in Busiki constituency in the hotly contested race of nine candidates.
