Busoga subregion is generally in jubilations following the recent appointment of Assistant Resident District/City Commissioners deployed by the presidency to boost mobilization in the RDCs’ offices.

By Friday last week all districts in the region had received these new young and energetic cadres with a lot of excitement and local leaders there promised them total support in execution of their duties.

“We are very ready to work with these people to ensure government programs are a success but most importantly Mzee must win massively in 2026,” said Namayingo District LV Vice chairman Abdullah Twaha Kauta when contacted for a comment Monday afternoon.

Kauta a renown mobilizer of the NRM said there was no reason for president Museveni not to win Busoga back.

“These appointments are not only enhancing mobilization but have also created jobs for Mzee’s Bazzukulu,” he said.

Luuka LCV chairman, Simon Wakaze described the appointments as NRM’s much love to Busoga subregion.

Wakaze said the appointees are patriots who have been mobilising the community even when they are not recognised in the system.

“I thank President Museveni and his government for spotting the right people. The ones picked from my district have actually been doing mobilisation even before. I am therefore very sure that they will deliver and as Luuka, we promise the appointing authority (President Museveni) total support in 2026. And we are very ready as Busoga to work with these Assistant RDC as we have been working with their bosses – the RDCs and their deputies,” he said.

Wakaze said that if there was anyone critiquing the appointments, such a person could be with his own personal problems.

He outlines that the government made a wise decision to officially recruit the brilliant young men who are going to save the taxpayers money from the corrupt officials.

“We only need to look at resources. If a person is earning shs810,000 plus some allowances that leads them close shs1.5 million and he is going to rescue over 60m from the corrupt, then that remains a good person in the district,” said Wakaze who also serves as Chairman for Busoga Consortium for development, a nonpartisan body steering development in the region.

Hajji Shafiq Muzilansa, the Bugweri district chairperson lashed at some individuals who were critiquing the appointment of Assistant RDCs. He said they are myopic and selfish.

“For a very long time, people have been blaming the leaders of Busoga for not considering positioning their own in Government, and when it is done, we still criticise. It is a common and bad practice in Busoga, today,” says Hajji Muzilansa.

“Those on employment list, the majority are youthful being prepared to take over leadership tomorrow when the elderly retire. As Basoga, we should not take the opportunities of this government for granted,” he said before saluting minister Babalanda for effectively utilizing well the opportunity and not paying attention to negative forces.

Bloggers Umar Ntogona, Waiswa Hatim Mpaata, Mathias Naikooli, and Bosco Nabonge are among the appointees.

Government critics including
DP’s chairman, Ramathan Bazanya were appointed.

During the same time, Hamphfrey Kakaire, also known as Kamada Embuzi, a former local broadcaster at NBS FM was appointed a Media Assistant in the office of the minister for presidency.

Contacted for a comment since some of the appointees re journalists, Ms Jackie Namboga, the vice president of the Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ), was very positive on the government’s considerations to media practitioners.

She congratulated the journalists who were considered for the slots.

During a talkshow at Smart FM, veteran journalist currently the Namayingo Deputy RDC, Trevor Solomon Baleke outlined the roles of the new assistant RDCs and said it was a very wise decision taken at the right time for a right cause which they public should positively welcome.

Baleke went as far as quoting the Laws under which these appointments were made and lured the young people who are still in the opposition to defect to NRM.

“We should give back to the president by supporting him in 2026 as a subregion and let us as Busoga applaud the Presidency Minister, Hon Milly Babirye Babalanda and her PA also Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Faruk Kirunda for assisting Mzee in cadre identification,” said Baleke.

A few days later, Busoga saw most of the opposition National Unity Platform’s Youth Coordinators cross to the ruling NRM.
