Police in Jinja city on Friday, May 2, 2024, arrested and detained three suspects on allegations of killing a fishermen at Kisima 2 Island.
Only identified as Rogers, the victim was accused of stealing four fish from Irene Akurut, 35, commonly known as Mama Angel, a resident of Kisiima 2 island in Jinja city.
Allegations show that Mama Angel, after establishing the missing of her aquatic life, informed Moses Katasa and Wilber Magero 29, who reportedly beat up Rogers to death.
Police revealed that after ending his life, the suspects then got the lifeless body of Rogers and hanged it in his house to falsely create an impression that he committed suicide.
They locked up the house and exited through the window, which prompted residents to notify police that swiftly responded.
Kiira regional police spokesperson SP James Mubi said the scene of crime was visited and critically examined, adding that observations were also recorded by detectives.
“The deceased’s feet touches the ground. Both hands were straight, the tongue was not out, and eyes not protruded,” said Mubi.
Mubi said three suspects were apprehended, facing charges of murder at Jinja central police station (CPS).
“Following that background, we have so far arrested three people to help in the investigations into this murder,” Mubi noted.
The deceased’s body was conveyed to Jinja main hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
