Shock engulfed Mulanda B village in Kisubi, Entebbe Municipality following the fire incident in which a single mother lost all her six children on Wednesday May 15, 2024.
A report statement received by The Eye Media indicates that efforts by concerned residents to save life of the children aged between 2 and 16 were futile as they were overpowered by the fire that engulfed their residence, trapping them their until it burnt them to death.
“Upon receiving a distress call from a community member, the OC of Kisubi Police Station immediately responded. The fire had engulfed the residence of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national, where six children were trapped,” says a statement signed by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
“Despite efforts by community members to rescue them, the children, aged between 2 and 16, succumbed to the fire,” added Owoyesigyire.
The Kisubi Police Station dispatched officers to the scene, along with firefighters from Entebbe Police Division. The fire was eventually extinguished, and the bodies of the children were recovered and taken to the city mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Initial observations suggest that the fire originated from an electronic kettle left unattended in the sitting room, connected to a socket, according to the police.
“The scene has been secured, and investigations are ongoing. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We urge the public to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Owoyesigyire pledged.
