The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of two people who allegedly fought and one was boxed to death while the other was lynched by mob.
They are Julius Beinomugisha Kato, 40 years and,
Nelson Niwatuha alias Ndyagabondo, 25 years who were both casual labourers residents of Muyanje Cell, Bwambara sub county, Rukungiri district.
“It’s alleged that on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at around 18:30hrs at Omukayembe trading center at Muyanje cell, Nelson Niwatuha had a contract to dig a garden for one Nsheija in Omukayembe Trading Centre.
He contacted Julius Beinomugisha Kato to help him do it, and they could finish the work.
“In the morning hours of Tuesday May 14, 2024 they started digging while taking alcohol. When they finished work, they continued drinking, and in the evening, that’s when Julius demanded payment for the work done. Instead Nelson told him, “Your pay is the money we have been drinking.” This annoyed Julius and they started fighting,” said Kigezi Region police spokesperson, Elly Maate.
Maate says that shortly, Julius was punched, fell down, and died instantly.
The local residents out of annoyance, ganged up on Nelson in a course of revenge.
“He was rescued, rushed to Bwambara Health Centre III, where he succumbed to his injuries,” added Maate.
Police visited the crime scene, recorded vital statements and postmortem examinations were conducted on both bodies.
Police say Inquiries are ongoing and those who were involved in the mob action will be brought to book.
