A drama-like turn of events unfolded at Kiyaga village in Nyabihoko subcounty, Ntungamo district during the arrest of a yet to be identified suspect.
Rogers Wawono, a police officer lost two of his fingers when the resistant suspect threw a panga at a swam of police officers who had come to apprehend him.
The furious suspect had closed himself in a house as he had gone reportedly crazy with a panga to nearly cutting everyone in a bar.
According to reports, the suspect developed a misunderstanding with a colleague over love affairs, taking a panga against him when the fight ensued.
“We managed to access the house he was hiding. I asked our men not to shoot, and when we tried to arrest him [suspect], he flung a machete at us, which hurt my my hand,” Wamono told the media.
It is said that the suspect had injured two other individuals at the scene using the same panga before police’s intervention.
The officer is currently nursing wounds at Mulago hospital of his ring finger that was completely cut off, and the smallest finger only remained hanging by a tissue.
The Ntungamo district commander, Hannington Bushaija, however, said the suspect is in their custody as investigations proceed.
