The territorial police in Rukungiri have arrested a woman for allegedly chopping her husband’s head off using a panga when he was asleep, burning the dead body and dumping it in a pit latrine.
The deceased has been identified by the police as a 53-year-old Vincent Byamukama of Mushuga village, Katonya parish, Nyakishenyi sub county in Rukungiri district.
It is alleged that the 44-year-old Everino Mutesigensi and their daughter, Hildah Nishaba aged 19 and their 21-year-old son Moses Akanjijuka got disgusted with the deceased’s unbecoming behavior leading them into commission of his murder.
“Vicent [Byamukama] has for long been having domestic violence with his family members,” a local source told the Eye Media.
“On June 4, 2024 at around 9:00pm, he returned home drunk and chased Everino (the wife) and Hildah (the daughter) away from home. He allowed only Wilbroad, the 6-year-old grand son to stay,” our local source.
Confirming this report, Kigezi Region police spokesperson, Elly Maate said the other family members who are now suspects could only return home to cook after knowing that he has moved to the trading center for alcohol and return to the bush after eating.
“But on June 8, 2024 at around 8:00pm, knowing that he was still in the trading center, they moved home to cook as usual, but before they could have the food ready, he emerged from the house with a sharp Panga, chased but didn’t get any of them,” Maate says.
The wife and her daughter remained hiding in the bush until around 11:30pm when they returned and found the access door open. The wife proceeded to the bed room where Vincent was sleeping with a sharp Panga besides his bed.
Armed with anger and hunger, the wife, Everino picked and used the Panga to cut her husband on the neck killing him instantly.
With the held of her daughter, police say, the wife carried the body on a mattress to the behind of their compound, gathered dried banana leaves and fibres, burnt the body before dumping it in their toilet. They then demolished the pit latrine on June 9, 2024.
“But on June 13, 2024 Vincent’s sister identified as asked Hildah for the where abouts of her brother and Hildah told her that he had fallen and died in their toilet.
Annet informed her other brother one Twesigye Angelo who mobilized residents to check the toilet,” said Maate in a report released on Saturday June 15, 2024.
“Having found the toilet demolished and a visible human skull, the matter was reported at Nyakishenyi Police Station and the Police at CPS Rukungiri was notified for further management,” Maate further explained.
A walking stick sustained with suspected blood, burnt pieces of a mattress and a mat were recovered from both scenes (where the man was murdered and where the body was burnt) leading to the arrest of the wife, their daughter and the son.
