…when satan closes your door, God opens for you another wider door, this old adage suits the current state of NBS FM’s Rahumah Najjuma.
Though throwing a massive birthday party while at Kiira FM was next to impossible, these days “obwo buntu butono nyo” to her.
This comes after the multi NBS and Smart FM’s Luganda and English News anchor on Sunday, June 23, 2024, celebrated what she termed her 19th birthday at Jinja’s top cafe, the Sta.
The bummy Najjuma who was dressed to kill coupled with matching jewelry and expensive makeup surprised colleagues when she celebrated her birthday at the top notch Sta Cafe located at Ambercourt in Jinja City.
The source of this well organised Birthday party is not yet clear though rumour has it that her close ally Sherinah Nambaziira of Kiira fm was the soul funder.
The party attracted several dignitaries, including the Namayingo deputy RDC Mr Trevor Solomon Baleke, and renowned presenters and reporters from different media houses in Jinja.
Only chicken, chips and expensive soft drinks were served at the party.
But interestingly, other attendees couldn’t come out of their vehicles which caused jam in the parking lot. In fact, the birthday girl, after cutting the cake, was seen packing the cakes in silver plates, taking them to unidentified individuals in cars parked near the venue leaving the ever doubting journalists murmuring whether the real funder of the Party was within the vicinity.
Najjuma, who joined the radio in 2016 after finalising her bachelors degree in journalism and mass communication from Kampala International University, is now 19 years. What a surprise!
And of all other concerns, Bukedde TV’s Ivan Lubega remained suspicious of Najjuma’s age. “Someone who has since worked with Victoria fm, Kiira fm and now NBS group of companies can’t be only 19. Anyway she might be,” the grumbling Lubega was heard complaining as he moved out with silver plates loaded with pieces of the cake.
Rahumah used the party to introduce and commend her friends, mentioning the role each has played in her life. Unlike other parties, this one has only two items on the agenda; birthday girl’s speech and cake cutting.
A born of Butambala, Najjuma is known for her celebrity life with the dramatic “challenges” on TikTok and the mesmerising posts on Facebook and Instagram.
While still at Kiira fm, the former Amabobeze news anchor alongside her co-anchor could first film herself dancing a few minutes to the bulletin, which attracted the attention of many social media users and became her listeners.
In her remarks, Najjuma commended journalists for the love showcased towards her family.
“I am proud of the Jinja media fraternity. I came from far away. I came with no one in Jinja, but now we are like a family. Thank you for loving me and my family. I shall remain proud of you guys,” she said.
Jackline Nabatanzi, Milly Tibigwaayo, Meddy Lutaaya, Samuel Balikoowa, Simon Mbago, and Paul Isabirye were among other Jinja journalists who graced the party.
