There is a somber mood at Musana Community Health Centre in Kaliro where the body of President Yoweri Museveni’s Deputy Press Secretary’s wife, Gladys Aliyinza lies lifeless.
Aliyinza who has been aspiring for Luuka Woman MP seat currently occupied by former presidency minister Esther Mbayo died Thursday June 27, 2024 evening in an accident that also claimed her political assistant, Yusuf Biita.
The incident occured at Nawansega village in Bukoova town council, Luuka district.
Reports indicate that the former aspiring Luuka district Woman member of parliament was travelling in a four-wheel drive double cabin that collided face to face with a sugarcane truck.
The driver of the double cabin Ramathan Kanika is nursing wounds at Iganga General Hospital-Nakavule.
It is said that the two vehicles that were coming from opposite sides were over speeding, which is believed to have caused the accident.
Police have not yet confirmed the distressing incident.
However a section of the deceased Aliyinza’s supporters gathered at the health facility mortuary believe the accident was a result of witchcraft from their opponents.
One of them only known as Nabirye and resident of Buwala in Irongo Subcounty said Aliyinza in the past survived several accidents.
It has also been alleged that she recently received verbal threats from those opposed to her aspirations.
“That woman also threatened our DISO that she would get some problem,” one mourner yelled without mention of the witch woman.
A born of Ngobi Ndaaye at Buwala village in Irongo subcounty, Aliyinza became popular in the 2021 general elections when she ran against Esther Mbayo.
