Police in Jinja has in custody two of its own officers on suspension that the duo aided some two brothers who assaulted their sister’s husband to death to escape after committing the crime.
Without giving us their particulars, Kiira Region police spokesperson, James Mubi confirmed the arrest of the officers.
The accused inlaws committed the offence on July 7, 2024 at Kalebera village, Buwenge rural sub county, Jinja district when they they attacked their sister Sharifah Katono’s husband, Paul Gusango.
Findings indicate that the deceased and Kantono had for long had misunderstandings emanating from Kantono’s endless extramarital affairs.
Police said that on June 28, 2024, Kantono filed assault case against her 30-year-old husband at Buwenge Central police station.
But Kantono’s brothers on July 7, 2024 made a follow-up on the case, where two police officers went to conduct an arrest and the suspect exhibited violent behaviour.
Allegations show that the suspect took off, and the in-laws followed him up, beating him up seriously to an extent of causing him grievous injuries on his head.
Police rushed the victim to a nearby health facility for medical attention and treatment but later was referred to Buwenge General Hospital for further management, where he succumbed to his injuries on July 9, 2024.
“Police have commenced prosecution guided investigations. Two police officers are in custody at CPS Buwenge to aid in the inquiries as the search for Sharifah Kantono and his brothers continues,” Mubi said.
Preliminary report indicates that before meeting his fate, Gusango has been accusing his wife of having an extramarital sex affair with a man yet to be identified.
Kantono had developed deep emotional bonds with the man in question, and that could sparkle endless fights in the family.
“Kantono and his brothers are still on the run, but police are tirelessly hunting for them to answer aggravated murders charges,” said Mubi.
