Police in Busoga East are still fighting to identify the victim who was killed in the tragic accident that involved two motor vehicles along Iganga-Bugiri highway.
The regional police spokesperson, SSP Diana Nandawula says the unidentified person was Sunday July 14, 2024 burnt behind recognition when a truck collided headon with a fuel tank leading to its explosion.
“We are still struggling to get more info about this person,” Nandawula told The Eye Media on Monday morning.
The deadly accident occured at Busowobi village in Bugweri district along the busy highway when a fuel tank ZG 2941 collided with a cement truck UBG 347D.
It is reported that the fuel tank was coming from the Iganga side before experiencing a head-on collision with a cement carrier from Bugiri.
The delicate fuel tank immediately caught fire which led to the loss of one life who was not identified, according to Nandawula.
“We are investigating circumstances under which two vehicles collided and caught fire, hence ending the life of one unidentified female and one male injured,” the officer said.
“Police fire brigade swiftly rushed to contain the fire, but the victim had been destroyed beyond recognition,” she added.
Nandawula said the deceased body was conveyed at Iganga main hospital mortuary for post mortem while one of the drivers is under medical management in the same hospital.
She said investigations and comprehensive inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of deadly incident.
