Uncertainty of whether government is for or against the establishment of a Sugar Mill in Namayingo district has been closed with the official launch of construction the construction of CN sugar factory at Kifuyo by the Vice President.
The vice President, H.E Jesca Alupo says is very pleased with the investment by CN Sugar Company.
The launch that triggered off jubilations all over the district took place on Friday August 9, 2024 afternoon at the company site in Kifuyo trading center, Buyinja Subcounty, Namayingo district where the Vice President laid a stone for the construction of the sugar mill.
The factory becomes the first ever mega investment in Namayingo district, the reason residents and leaders have been collectively fighting to ensure they don’t lose the investor.
During the ceremony graced by many dignitaries of all categories including political, clergy and cultural leaders and a mammoth of residents, in her speech delivered by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Hajjat Rukia Isanga Nakadama, the Vice president congratulated the community of Namayingo upon attraction of such a very big investor.
Alupo described those who always frustrate investors as fraudsters and enemies of the development of Uganda. She said such bad elements should reform or wait for their numbered days.
She asked CN sugar to also explore other opportunities in Namayingo as the district is endowed with a series of minerals like the white lake sand that is used in the production of glasses.
The Vice President advised holders of small portions of land not to go in for sugarcane planting but rather leave it for those with big chunks of land.
Leaders vow to mobilize for NRM in Namayingo
Namayingo district leaders; Ronald Sanya the district chairperson, Hon Margret Makoha the district Woman member of Parliament and Hon Odwori Micheal Odwori the Namayingo South County legislator commended government for finally accepting CN sugar mill to take shape in their district. With Hon Abdul Adidwa, these leaders have for long been defending the only investor they have so far lobbied to their district.
They said that with a green light given to their only investor, the team will now concentrate of mobilizing for President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement.
“Our dear Vice President we are too joyous today, its a remarkable day to us the people of Namayingo, it has been a journey full of huddles to have CN sugar factory here. The people you see around are now ready to vote for president Museveni in the forth coming general election as they now have an alternative source of employment having been chased from the lake,” said Sanya adding that: We are so excited.
Sigh of relief
The Resident District Commissioner, Mr David Kulaba Isabirye said as he addressed the vice president that there’s a sigh of relief in Namayingo as the battle to have CN sugar factory constructed wasn’t an easy one.
“Madam Vice president, I was deployed here by President Museveni to promote development not to suffocate it, however, I was about to ask for a transfer as I saw some people who would have been promoters of development fighting CN sugar. So unfortunate!!.
Mr Kulaba said: I am extremely happy that we have had the construction launched.
“Namayingo people I am one of those who want to see you employed because when you have jobs the burden of criminality decreases,” said Kulaba.
Namit Patel, the proprietor of CN Sugar Factory commended the president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for allowing them invest in Uganda. He said, they have so far invested close to 35 US million dollars and ought to employ over 2000 local people.
Namit however asked government to expedite the process of issuing them an operational license such that they embark on production as soon as possible.
