Dear Mr. Sande Rodgers,
I have come across your public complaint circulating on social media, where you expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s alleged neglect of Nakasongola District in the latest RDC appointments. As a concerned citizen, I feel compelled to address your grievances, particularly given your decision to air them in such a public and informal manner.
As the District Speaker, your choice to voice these concerns on social media, rather than through the appropriate formal channels, reflects poorly on your understanding of governance and leadership. Was this a genuine attempt to solicit public sympathy, or merely a spectacle intended to distract from more pressing issues within your leadership?
You lament the absence of an RDC appointment from Nakasongola, yet you seem to overlook a significant fact: the Minister of Public Service, Hon. Muruli Mukasa, who is responsible for overseeing all public service appointments, hails from your district. If appointments were truly about securing special favors for one’s constituency, as you suggest, then Nakasongola should be thriving under such influential representation. Shouldn’t Hon. Muruli Mukasa, with all his authority, have transformed Nakasongola into a model of opportunity and development? If this has not been the case, perhaps the fault lies not with the President, but with local leaders who have failed to capitalize on their positions effectively.
Furthermore, before Hon. Muruli Mukasa, Nakasongola was represented by the late Peter Nyombi, a former Attorney General. Despite this legacy, your narrative insinuates that the NRM has neglected your district. Such selective memory is not only misleading but also dangerous, as it distorts reality and misinforms the public.
Additionally, Nakasongola currently has three Commissioners in various Ministries, five Under Secretaries, and two deputy heads of government parastatals. Clearly, the district is not lacking in representation within high government offices. The pressing question, therefore, is not about the quantity of appointments, but rather the impact of this representation: what tangible benefits have these officials delivered to the people of Nakasongola?
Your preoccupation with securing an RDC appointment reveals a troubling misalignment of priorities. What meaningful change would an additional appointment bring if the current leaders—who hold far greater influence—have done little to improve the district? Have the Commissioners, Under Secretaries, and other high-ranking officials delivered on their mandates, or are these positions merely serving as stepping stones for personal advancement?
More critically, who exactly are you advocating for with this letter? The people of Nakasongola, or a political class fixated on positions and titles?
How would the appointment of another official address the real and persistent challenges facing Nakasongola—such as recurring droughts, the lack of safe drinking water, rampant land grabbing, and the absence of a district hospital? These are the issues that warrant your full attention, yet they are conspicuously absent from your complaint.
It is high time that leaders like yourself shift your focus from the pursuit of political appointments and start demanding real service delivery for the people you claim to represent. Political appointments, more often than not, serve as instruments for personal gain, benefiting the appointee and their immediate circle rather than the broader community.
The people of Nakasongola deserve more than symbolic appointments; they deserve leaders who are committed to fighting for their rights and ensuring that their basic needs are met.
It is easy to cast blame on the President, but the real challenge lies in introspection. What have you, Mr. Sande Rodgers, done to alleviate the suffering in Nakasongola? Where is your voice when it comes to addressing the real issues that affect your constituents? It is time to abandon the theatrics and start leading with integrity and purpose. The people of Nakasongola deserve nothing less.
