Hon Diana Mutasingwa, born in 1990 to Charles Mutasingwa and Grace Mutasingwa in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District, has rapidly ascended the ranks of Ugandan politics to become a formidable force in her district and beyond. From her early beginnings as a mayoral candidate for Njeru Municipality in 2018 to her current roles as the Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District and the State Minister in the Office of the Vice President, Mutasingwa’s journey is a testament to her dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the people she serves.
Diana Mutasingwa’s political career began in earnest in 2018 when she contested for the mayorship of Njeru Municipality. Although she did not win, her campaign laid the groundwork for her future success. Undeterred by the setback, Mutasingwa continued to engage with her community, focusing on issues that mattered most to them. Her persistence paid off in the 2021 general elections when she was elected as the Woman Member of Parliament for Buikwe District, a role in which she has excelled.
In her first term, Mutasingwa has already made significant strides in addressing some of the most pressing issues in her district. One of her most notable achievements has been her fight against land grabbers. Land is a critical resource in Buikwe, and the encroachment on land by powerful individuals and entities has long been a source of tension and injustice. Mutasingwa has positioned herself as a champion of the less privileged, using her platform to advocate for their rights and to push back against those who would exploit them.
Her compassion and commitment to her community are further exemplified through the work of her charitable organization, the Diana K Foundation. Through this foundation, Mutasingwa has touched countless lives, particularly among the most vulnerable populations in her district. One of her key initiatives has been to empower teenage mothers by providing them with skills training in areas such as weaving and hairdressing. These programs have offered young mothers a chance to regain their lost hope and rebuild their lives, demonstrating Mutasingwa’s deep empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by women in her community.
In addition to her work with teenage mothers, Mutasingwa has also focused on improving access to clean water in Buikwe District. Recognizing that access to clean water is fundamental to public health and well-being, she has spearheaded the construction of numerous boreholes across the district. These boreholes have not only alleviated the water scarcity issues in many communities but have also improved the overall quality of life for the residents.
Moreover, Mutasingwa has been a strong advocate for economic empowerment. She has donated seed capital to various youth and women’s groups, enabling them to start small businesses and become financially independent. This initiative has been instrumental in reducing unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship in the district.
Passionate about the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Mutasingwa has been a key figure in mobilizing support for the party in Buikwe District. Her efforts have been instrumental in regaining the district’s lost support for the NRM from the opposition Democratic Party, a feat that has solidified her position as one of the party’s most influential figures in the region.
As Buikwe District looks to the future, there is a growing consensus among the populace that Diana Mutasingwa should be fronted unopposed as their Woman Member of Parliament in the forthcoming general elections. The overwhelming support she enjoys is a reflection of the service beyond self that she has consistently demonstrated. Her leadership, compassion, and commitment to her constituents have made her not just a politician but a beloved figure and a source of pride for Buikwe District. Diana Mutasingwa’s story is one of determination, service, and an unwavering commitment to the people, and her legacy in Buikwe is one that will be remembered for generations to come.
