Peter Kasolo Okocha, the Mayor of Jinja City, has made a highly anticipated return to the radio airwaves after a three-year break, following his election in 2021.
Known in the media world by his radio name, “Sir Rio Alton Kasolo,” he will now replace Hassan Muwanga Njaka to host the popular program Ebyekusifu on Busoga One FM, airing weekdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Kasolo, who launched his media career in 2006 at Radio Mpanga, has become a well-established figure in the Busoga region, working at several radio stations, including Baba Radio and Busoga One FM.
His decision to step away from broadcasting came in 2021 when he was elected as Jinja City’s mayor on a National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, marking a shift from media to politics.
In welcoming Kasolo back, Innocent Anyole, the station manager, expressed his excitement, saying, “We are thrilled to have Peter Alton Kasolo back where he truly belongs, bringing insightful current affairs and inspiring content. Get ready for an unforgettable experience!”
Busoga One FM, owned by former Member of Parliament Paul Mwiru, a fellow NUP member, has seen growing anticipation for Kasolo’s return, with many speculating about his motivations.
Some observers believe his re-entry into the media world may be a strategic move to strengthen his political profile ahead of the 2026 elections, while others suggest it could signal uncertainty about his political future.
Before becoming mayor, Kasolo was a popular comedian with the Swengere family and worked as a morning show host at Baba FM, owned by former MP Moses Grace Balyeku. The details of his salary for this radio comeback have not yet been disclosed.
Kasolo’s return to radio marks a significant crossroads in his career, blending his political aspirations with his deep-rooted media background as he looks to reconnect with both his audience and political constituents.
