The Deputy Presidential Spokesperson and Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilization, Al-Hajji Faruk Kirunda, has dismissed claims circulating on social media about new appointments to the Electoral Commission.
In a tweet published on his verified Twitter handle, Kirunda categorically labeled as “fake news” the reports suggesting that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had appointed Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine to lead the Electoral Commission, with Hon. Syda Bbumba as his deputy.
“The general public is called upon to regard as fake news the social media story indicating that H.E @KagutaMuseveni has appointed Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine to head the Electoral Commission and to be deputized by Hon. Syda Bbumba,” the tweet read.
Kirunda assured Ugandans that any such appointments would be communicated through official and credible channels, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before dissemination.
This clarification comes amidst growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms, often causing unnecessary alarm among the public.
Kirunda’s statement reiterates the government’s commitment to transparent communication regarding key national matters.
As of now, no official announcements regarding the Electoral Commission leadership have been made. The public is urged to rely on official government sources for accurate information.
