The Presidential Press Unit has announced that His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, will resume his nationwide Parish Development Model (PDM) tour with a visit to the Busoga Sub-region from Wednesday, January 22, to Saturday, January 25, 2025.

The President’s visit aims to evaluate the progress of PDM implementation, interact with farmers and local leaders, and commission key projects designed to stimulate economic growth and development in the region.

Detailed Program

Day 1: Wednesday, January 22, 2025
President Museveni will kick off his tour by visiting farmers in Namutumba, Luuka, and Jinja districts. These engagements will provide an opportunity to assess the impact of the Parish Development Model on grassroots agricultural activities and identify challenges faced by farmers in the region.

Day 2: Thursday, January 23, 2025
The day will commence with the commissioning of the Presidential Skilling Hub, a facility designed to equip the youth with vocational skills and promote self-reliance.
Later, the President will address a public gathering at Lwanda Primary School, where he is expected to highlight government initiatives under the PDM and encourage community participation in the program.
In the afternoon, President Museveni will meet with leaders from the Busoga Sub-region at the Mayuge District Headquarters to discuss strategies for regional development. The day will conclude with a live media interaction where the President will address pressing national issues and answer questions from the public.

Day 3: Friday, January 24, 2025
The President will commission the new Tembo Steel Factory in Iganga, a significant investment aimed at boosting industrialization, creating jobs, and enhancing economic activity in the sub-region.
In the afternoon, he will address a mega rally of boda-boda riders at Iganga High School. This event is expected to draw thousands of participants as the President engages with this vital sector of the transport economy.

Significance of the Tour

The Parish Development Model, a flagship initiative of the government, aims to uplift Ugandans from subsistence farming to commercial production, thereby reducing poverty and enhancing household incomes. The President’s tour reflects his commitment to ensuring that the program is effectively implemented across the country.

The Busoga Sub-region, known for its rich agricultural potential and emerging industrial sector, is a critical area in the PDM strategy. The President’s engagements are expected to inspire greater community participation and strengthen local development efforts.

The general public is encouraged to actively participate in the events and make the most of the opportunities presented during the tour.
